Vote FDMS in contest for $10,000 prize

The orchestra program at Floyd Dryden Middle School continues to grow each year as more and more students entering middle school are choosing to play a stringed instrument. The orchestra has a small inventory of instruments that continue to be repaired each year and will need to be replaced because of age. They also serve a large population of students on the low end of the socio-economic scale who financially cannot afford to rent from local vendors. Further, in a few years the school anticipates having a large population of students from several elementary schools who are part of the JAMM “El Sistema” program that will create a great demand for additional instruments. With budget cuts looming for the new school year, the school seeks to fundraise to meet the needs of its music students. Winning the $10,000 National Educational Music Company ‘Music is Life’ contest will make a big difference and Juneau residents can help by voting for FDMS online at nemc.com/contests/vote — each school or organization submitted a video and the winner will be chosen by public vote. Only one vote is allowed per email address, but the more people who vote, the better chance FDMS has of funding its orchestra’s instrument needs.
