On Valentine’s Day, Girl Scout Troop 4036 delivered 12 singing valentines throughout Alaska’s capital city. Spreading love and cheer was the primary goal, but the event was also a fundraiser for the troop’s trip to Whitehorse this summer. Along with a great adventure, the trip will teach the girls money management skills, international trip planning and working together as a troop to achieve a big goal.
The troop would like to express gratitude to the following companies for their support in making the Valentines Day Fundraiser an incredible success: Holland America/Princess/Gray Lines of Alaska for providing a van and driver to transport the girls to each delivery site and Fred Meyer for valentines and candy; the troop also would like to thank Hecla Greens Creek Mine and the Local IBEW for their generous
support for the upcoming trip.
The troop is comprised of second-, third- and fourth-grade students who attend Gastineau and Harborview Elementary Schools and the Juneau Community Charter School, along with home-schooled families. Along with delivering singing valentines, the girls have raised funds by selling nuts and cookies and singing holiday songs. Upcoming fundraisers include singing telegrams for Mothers’ and Fathers’ Day.
