Chatham Holt

Air National Guard Airman Chatham D. Holt graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas. The airman completed an intensive, eight-week program that included training in military discipline and studies, Air Force core values, physical fitness, and basic warfare principles and skills. Airmen who complete basic training earn four credits toward an associate in applied science degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Holt is the son of Daniel and Kathy Holt of Juneau. He is a 2012 graduate of the Interior Distance Education of Alaska program, Galena.

Joe Comolli

Army National Guard Pvt. Joe M. Comolli has graduated from basic combat training at Fort Jackson, Columbia, S.C. During the nine weeks of training, the soldier studied the Army mission, history, tradition and core values, physical fitness, and received instruction and practice in basic combat skills, military weapons, chemical warfare and bayonet training, drill and ceremony, marching, rifle marksmanship, armed and unarmed combat, map reading, field tactics, military courtesy, military justice system, basic first aid, foot marches, and field training exercises.

Comolli is a 2011 graduate of Hoonah High School.

Rebekah Badilla

Juneau resident and Azusa Pacific University student Rebekah Badilla made the academic Deans’ List at APU. Badilla is honored for a fall semester 2012 academic standing of a 3.5 or better grade-point average. Badilla is A Global Studies Major, who is joined by 1,698 other students receiving the same honor. Azusa Pacific University is an evangelical, Christian university committed to God first and excellence in higher education.

Cassie Gamez

Cassie Gamez, Juneau-Douglas High School Class of 2004, graduated cum laude with a degree in Arts and Letters with a minor in Special Education from Portland State University on Dec. 8, 2012. Gamez works with disabled clients with the Companion Program in Portland, Ore., to encourage independence, healthy lifestyles and community involvement. Future plans include pursuing her Master’s Degree in Early Childhood Intervention. Gamez is the daughter of Larry Gamez of Juneau, Carol Gamez of Juneau, and Rebecca Nance of Wilsonville, Ore.

Thanks for attending fundraiser at the Goldtown

On behalf of Congregation Sukkat Shalom, I would like to thank all those who attended the Fiddler on the Roof singalong at the Goldtown Nickelodeon on Dec. 25. We raised close to $700 which we donated to the American Civil Liberties Union, whose mission is to protect the personal liberties we all cherish and defend freedom every day all across America in every state.
