50 years of Scottish Rite

John Sandor and Jake Hendricks, second and third from left, celebrate 50 years of membership in Scottish Rite fraternity, with Dan McCrummen and Steven Stewart at the Hendricks home March 21.

Two members of the Juneau Valley of the Ancient and Accepted Scottish Rite received pins and caps recently to celebrate their 50 years of membership in the fraternity.

John Sandor, seen second from left in this March 21 photo taken at Jake Hendricks’ Juneau residence, received the fourth through 18th Scottish Rite degrees in 1962, and the 19th through 32nd in 1982. Since then, he’s been honored with the 33rd degree of Scottish Rite Freemasonry.

In addition to his Scottish Rite honors and achievements, Sandor is also Past Master of Mt. Juneau Lodge No. 147 of Free and Accepted Masons, a life member of Mt. Juneau-Gastineaux Lodge No. 21, a life member of the Juneau-Douglas Shrine Club, a member of Juneau Chapter No. 7 of the Order of the Eastern star and a member of the York Rite of Freemasonry.

Hendricks, second from right, joined the Scottish Rite in 1961 and received his fourth through 32nd degrees then. He’s also been honored as a recipient of the 33rd degree.

Along with his work in the Scottish Rite, Hendricks served as master of M. Juneau Lodge No. 147 in 1971 and in 1975. He is a life member of Mt. Juneau-Gastineaux Lodge No. 21, the Juneau Valley of the Scottish Rite and the Juneau-Douglas Shrine Club.

Pictured with the two 50-year members are, left, Dan McCrummen, Personal Representative of the Deputy of the Supreme Council in the Orient of Alaska, and Steven Stewart, right, Venerable Master of the Juneau Valley of the Scottish Rite’s Lodge of Perfection.
