Hospice and Home Care of Juneau will be holding its eighth annual Heart of Hospice Run on Saturday, April 13 at 9 a.m. at Twin Lakes. There will be a 5K and a 1 mile Run/Walk along the Twin Lakes trail.
Participants of all ages get a great long sleeve t-shirt, a little exercise, and the chance to support our programs.
Pre-registration is available at both Alaska Club locations, Pavitt Health & Fitness, Nugget Alaskan Outfitter and Hospice and Home Care of Juneau. The cost to pre-register is $15 for ages 18 and under, $20 for 19 and older. You can also register the day of the race starting at 8:15 am. Race day registration fee is $20 for 18 and under and $25 for ages 19 and older.
A few years ago Virginia Mason Medical Center donated to Hospice and Home Care and wished to help establish and sponsor the Dr. Henry Akiyama Award in memory for all the medical service he provided to our community. We continue to honor Dr. Akiyama with an award given to the fastest male and fastest female runner of the 5k distance. Their names and times will be placed on the plaque which hangs in the Hospice and Home Care of Juneau office.
We would like to invite runners and walkers to carry a photo of a loved one or friend who has died or still living who has received or continues to receive care from Hospice and Home Care of Juneau or any other hospice agencies. This will allow those runners and walkers to honor their loved one while participating in this healthy and fun event.
There will be a drawing from all the race participants for a few gifts that we have to give away: a bike tune up from Cycle Alaska, Tram Passes from Mount Roberts Tramway and a surprise gift donation.
