New Lighting for Glory Hole with support from JCF

Amy Skilbred, Juneau Community Foundation executive director, hands a check to Glory Hole chef Rogelio Cardo. The check is a donation to replace the lighting in the shelter's day room.

Juneau’s only shelter and soup kitchen, The Glory Hole, will be a little brighter with help from the Juneau Community Foundation.

The Foundation has announced that $10,000 from its Blackwell Fund has been donated to the Glory Hole to replace its day room lighting system.

“The funds will be used to improve our very outdated and stressful lighting system, enabling us to install energy efficient, therapeutic lighting,” said Mariya Lovishchuk, Glory Hole executive director. “The lighting system switch is part of the day room renovation project which will include installing new flooring, painting the day room, new furniture, and other small remodels.”

The shelter and kitchen serves three meals a day, seven days a week, to approximately 150 people and delivers food to those who cannot visit the facility. It also serves as an emergency housing facility for men, women and children.

Oh behalf of the Glory Hole, Lovishchuk expressed her gratitude to the Blackwell Fund of the Juneau Community Foundation for generously supporting this project.
