The Juneau Community Foundation has collaborated with the Aquatics Facility Board to help fund an aquatic climbing wall at the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.
The climbing wall will enhance the pool experience at Augustus Brown by introducing “aquatic climbing” to Juneau — a growing, alternative sport that has evolved over the last decade in outdoor and indoor environments. The wall will be constructed of non abrasive panels and climbing holds installed at an angle over the pool to ensure that climbers safely fall into the pool when they lose their grip or complete the climbing course.
“We appreciate the work and support of the Aquatics Facility Board and the Foundation,” said Kathrin Millhorn, Aquatics Manager. “The wall will enhance the pool experience for its users by adding an exciting component to the Augustus Brown Swimming Pool.”
The project will cost approximately $20,000. The Juneau Community Foundation’s Gaguine Fund is matching the first $10,000 raised. The Glacier Swim Club has kicked off the challenge with a generous donation of $6,000. With $4,000 of additional support raised by the community by the end of July, the goal will be met and wall will provide downtown pool patrons with a fun, alternative activity.
If you or your business would like to help support this project, please send your donation to: Juneau Community Foundation, 350 N.
