Alaska Communications’ Summer of Heroes youth recognition program will wrap up its nomination period July 22 — there is still. Alaska Communications has again partnered with Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska to promote awareness and support for youth development programs throughout the state. One of the components of this partnership is youth recognition.
“A hero can be any Alaska youth, age six to 18, who has raised significant funds for a cause, saved a person’s life, made a difference in school through education or sports or made a significant contribution to his or her community” according to the Summer of Heroes website. Alaska Communications and Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska will recognize six youth, selected from community nominees, five from the general program and one fro the employee program, based on nomination forms and short answer responses. Selected heroes will receive a $1,500 scholarship and a trip to the 2013 recognition ceremony.
The other component to the program is that Alaska Communications will donate $25 for every smart phone it sells between May 22 and July 22 to Boys & Girls Clubs of Alaska. For more on the program or to nominate a young community member, visit http://www.alaskacommunications.com/summerofheroes .
