The parents and preschoolers of Juneau would like to thank the City and Borough of Juneau for funding the Youth Activities grant that makes the Turf for Tots program and the Family Nights at the Turf possible! Thanks to the grant, Association for the Education of Young Children - Southeast Alaska coordinates access for all Head Start and licensed child care programs to participate in Turf for Tots program Mondays through Fridays, 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Just this year, 1,368 children attended Turf for Tots from September 2012 through May 2013.
Fieldhouse Family Nights at the Turf is a free monthly event for families with children ages 0-5 during the school year. It is a popular event; just ask the 1,965 adults and children who attended Family Nights at the Turf last year. Family Night at the Turf will start again on Sept. 13 from 5-6:30 p.m.
Both programs give young children healthy opportunities to engage in fun, developmentally appropriate movement activities at the Dimond Park Fieldhouse. Both programs are partially funded by City and Borough of Juneau sales tax revenue.
Thanks to the CBJ Youth Activities Grant, Best Beginnings, and funding from thread Child Care Resource and Referral Network, AEYC was able to purchase new play equipment to replace tunnels, parachutes, and manipulatives that were retired after two years of heavy use by preschoolers! Bring your family and friends to the turf to try out the new portable basketball hoops, tricycles, koala climbers and more! For questions, call AEYC at 789-1235, or check the schedule online at www.dimondparkfieldhouse.org
