Alaska National Guard Day thank you

On behalf of the Alaska National Guard Day Reunion Committee of the American Legion Auke Bay Post #25 we would like to thank the following volunteers, participants and business community members for making the second annual Alaska National Guard Day Reunion Celebration an awesome success in providing a celebration and community thank you to the local men and women who have served and continue to serve their country in the Alaska National Guard. The event took place on July 30 in the former Armory (Juneau Arts & Culture Center), and was heavily attended with former and current Guardsmen and their families.


Without the contributions of time and effort of the following volunteers, the event could not have happened; in setting up the Armory, cooking, serving and cleaning up from the event: Murray and Sara Walsh, Ann Metcalfe, Stephen Chapput, Don Kubley, Joe Satran, Cameron Mitchell, Lynn Metcalfe, Nellie Metcalfe, Brian King, Stu Robards, Kyler Mitchell, Keith Comstock, Wayne Chapput, Joyce Dean, Betsy Longenbaugh, Louisa Phillips among others.

We would also like to thank the following Juneau businesses that sponsored the event with their generous donations and patriotic support to our Juneau area Alaska Guardsmen: Goldbelt Corporation and special thanks to their CEO Bob Loiselle; NC Machinery of Juneau, Alaska Marine Lines, Harri Plumbing, Hecla Greens Creek Mine, Juneau Hydropower, Inc., Coeur Alaska Kensington Gold Mine, The Breeze In, the Alaskan Brewing Co., Alaska Broadcasting System, KTOO radio, Juneau Empire and the Capital City Weekly.

Cathy Muñoz; Mayor Merrill Sanford (former Guardsman); Assemblymember Randy Wanamaker (former Guardsman); Assemblymember and staff assistant to Senator Egan, Jesse Kiehl; Brigadier General Leon “Mike” Bridges, AKARNG; Mike Lesmann, Special Assistant to Governor Sean Parnell who provided a proclamation to General Bridges; Sen. Mark Begich and staff for providing the senator’s video address and Sen. Lisa Murkowski and staff for providing the senator’s video address to the reunion and for the donation of a flag flown over the nation’s capitol that was raffled at the event.
