Youth activity to teach traditional twining

The Alaska State Museum will offer on Sept. 26 two workshops for young students to learn from master weaver Kay Field Parker weaving techniques used in Ravenstail weaving. From 10 a.m. to noon, students grades K through two can learn, and from 1 p.m. to 3 p.m., students grades three through five can learn. Parker will teach kids how to weave baskets using a two-strand twining technique also used in Ravenstail weaving. The workshops will take place at the Alaska State Museum and are sponsored by the Friends of the Alaska State Museum and funded in part by the citizens of the City and Borough of Juneau through sales tax revenue.
