Bartlett Regional Hospital Foundation’s Seafood Gala and Fundraiser, held Sept. 7, raised over $45,000 to support sexual assault examiner training and certification for Bartlett nurses.

“We are so thrilled to have reached our initial goal,” said Foundation President Holly Cerne. “We even exceeded it, so are able to talk about seeing nurses through recertification in two years.”

The elegant evening atop Mount Roberts was sold out, and more than 215 people enjoyed a special menu featuring Alaskan seafood excellently prepared by guest chef Jesse Ziff Cool and Timberline Restaurant’s Mark Collier. Entertainment was provided by Dr. Mimi Benjamin, Tom Locher, Wayne Norlund and Robert Cohen, with assistance from John Laskey. Chief of Police Bryce Johnson spoke of the importance of having SANE training in Juneau, guest of honor Caren Robinson, a former legislator and founder of AWARE, was honored for her advocacy on behalf of victims of domestic violence, and Ce Ce Brenner, BRH’s representative on Juneau’s Sexual Assault Response Team, shared how important it is for nurses to receive training and certification in conducting sexual assault examinations.

Direct financial support was received from corporate sponsors Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, Guardian Flight, Alaskan Brewing, Juneau Foot & Ankle Center, Alaska Peace Officers Association, Goldbelt Inc, Rainforest Pediatrics, Hecla Greens Creek, Juneau Emergency Medical Associates, and Sealaska. Table sponsors included Airlift Northwest, Alaska Pathology, AWARE, Bartlett Regional Hospital, BRH Board of Directors, Bauer/Clifton Interiors, Elgee Rehfeld Mertz, and Valley Medical.

Additional funds were raised from silent, outcry and dessert auctions, with the assistance of auctioneers Sharon Burns and Charles Crochet. Auction donations were received from Abby’s Kitchen, Airlift Northwest, Alaska Airlines, Alaska Canopy Adventures, Alaska Knifeworks, Alaska Travel Adventures, Ali Mapes, Allen Marine, Alpaca International, Annie Kaill’s, Barbara Craver, Becoming Images, Billy Gardner, Blue Mussel Aesthetics, Boheme, BRH Cafeteria, B’s Bistro, Chez Alaska, Cycle Alaska, Dr. William Palmer, Eaglecrest, Era Helicopters, Extended Stay Hotels, Full Circle, Gastineau Guiding, Holly Cerne, Jeremy Gieser, Judy Cummins, Julie Olson, Juneau Arts & Humanities Council, Kootznoowoo, Linda Hamilton, Loren & LaRae Jones, Mariella, Mary Borthwick and Robert Minch, Melina Mack, Mendenhall Auto, Norma Adams, Pampered Chef by Tonie Petrie, Paradise Cafe, Pedal Bike Tours of Portland, Pie in the Sky, Princess Cruises, R.D.
