Local 'Dynamic Duos' to be featured Tuesday at KRNN concert

KRNN will kick off their third annual Spotlight Concert Series on Tuesday, Oct. 8 with “Dynamic Duos,” hosted by KRNN DJ Katie Bausler. The concert will feature a mix of live cross-genre music and light conversation between four local duets: The Wool Pullers (Liz Snyder and Alex Kotlarsz), George and Bridget Kuhar, Soft Old Day (Irene Muller and Ian Leonard) and Ali Kane and Erin Hanson.

The Wool Pullers, Liz Snyder and Alex Kotlarsz, forged a musical partnership after individual efforts in Seattle (Kotlarsz) and Juneau (Snyder). Their day job this past summer involved serenading Salmon Bake diners with covers, and recent performances include a set at the Sitka-based Homeskillet Fest and in Juneau at Sammy Burrous' farewell bash at Rockwell.

Multi-faceted artists George and Bridget Kuhar are known for their original music projects -- which include the silent film score “Nosferatu” and the electronic music of “Playboy Spaceman” -- as well as solo works including George Kuhar's 2012 album “Gospel Music for an Aquarian Age.” Bridget Kuhar is also a former member of indie rock bands Velocity Girl, Unrest, Air Miami and Maybe it’s Reno. Tuesday night the Kuhars will bring their ukelele.

Singer songwriters Irene Muller and Ian Leonard make up the duo Soft Old Day. They’ll play tunes from Muller’s just released debut CD “Victory” as well as originals from Leonard. Muller grew up in Juneau and Seattle and has performed a set in almost every Alaska Folk Fest since she was a young child.

Also Folk Fest regulars, Alison Kane and Erin Hanson are known for their interpretations of traditional bluegrass tunes, a genre they share with their partners, who are both members of the Great Alaska Bluegrass Band.

Performances by the musical duos will be interspersed with interviews led by Bausler, who volunteers as host of the Tideline show on Mondays from 5-7 p.m. on KRNN 102.7 FM.

The show begins at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the Gold Town Nickelodeon in the Emporium Mall. Tickets are $12 in advance or $15 at the door and are available through the station www.ktoo.org.
