The second annual Frugal Fashion Show and High Tea was held Sept. 22 at the Juneau Moose Family Center. All of the proceeds from this event are being donated to the Aware Shelter. Juneau Chapter #439 of the Women of the Moose have been raising funds for the women’s shelter throughout the year by selling autographed pictures of Governor Parnell and First Lady Sandy, as well as their pink moose Rosie.
Meghan Desloover and her daughter represented the AWARE Staff and were presented with a framed picture of the first couple and Rosie, who was wearing her, Choose Respect T-shirt. The Women of the Moose plan to present a check to AWARE at their Activity Night on Nov. 4.
Sandi Hicks served as the official Master of Ceremonies for the event and our judges were Janice Mason, John Redlich, Jr. and Jodi Golden. They did a great a job judging four different categories, with all the models wearing outfits at a cost of $25 or less.
We had 18 models in four different categories. The overall winner, for a $100 cash prize, was Amyanna Bryan. Chelsey Welch was first runner up and received a $75 gift certificate from The Closet. Other prizes and gift certificates came from Alaska Dames, Amanda Maus and Sally Burgham of Custom Cuts, Virgin’s Salon, Susie Smith Carvings, Holly Hallmark, Donna Gouthermont, Linda Atley, Shirley McCoy, Rejuvenation Salon & Spa, Juneau Chapter #439 Women of the Moose, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge #700. Winners in each group received a great gift and there were also lots of wonderful door prizes given out during the event.
The Tea, held in honor of Pat Beadle, was beautiful, partly in thanks to Stan Beadle who allowed us to use Pat’s amazing tea cup collection. Bobbie McCoy received the Pat Beadle Award which was for the person who best represented the proper dress for a High Tea.
Refreshments were provided and served by the Women of the Moose. Special thanks to Katelyn Reddelopp, who not only modeled several items for us but helped with the serving as well.
Thanks to all who supported our event by purchasing tickets, being models, providing refreshments, and donating wonderful gift certificates and door prizes. We look forward to hosting a bigger and even better event next year.
