Honor your mentor this January

Who mentored you? A teacher, a neighbor, maybe a friend of the family? Whoever it may be, January is the month to reflect and extend a thank you to that mentor in your life. Big Brothers Big Sisters in Juneau will be thanking the 200-plus volunteers (Bigs) that act as mentors to the youth (Littles) in our community.

Highlights of BBBS’ celebration of National Mentoring Month include: Our current Bigs and Littles will participate in a “Thank Your Mentor Day,” a repeated success from previous years, where Littles thank their Bigs with a homemade pancake breakfast. Look for artwork created by BBBS matches at the JACC for January’s First Friday Gallery Walk! After that, the artwork will be moved to the Nugget Mall where it will be displayed for the rest of the month, then the artists get to take home their masterpieces. Read about your friends in the Juneau Empire and listen to them on the waves of KTOO, telling the tales of their mentoring experiences.
