As we begin a new year, the Board of Directors and Manager Darren Adams of the Southeast Alaska Food Bank would like to express our appreciation for all the community support the Food Bank received in 2013, demonstrating once again that Juneau must be the most generous community in the state!
With the help of Juneau’s businesses, organizations and individuals, we were able to bring in 258,004 pounds of food; and we handed out 241,827 pounds to those who need it.
We especially want to thank all of the groups and organizations that sponsored the major food drives in 2013, including the Rotary Clubs of Juneau, Boy Scouts, Lions Club, Lyle’s, National Guard, US Postal Service Letter Carriers, and The Juneau Radio Center; and thanks as well to the many other organizations and groups that sponsored the smaller food drive events. A big thanks to those who donated food and money at those drives. Your generosity amazes!
We would also like to thank the many businesses that donate product to us on a regular basis, including Super Bear, Fred Meyer, Safeway, Walmart, The Breeze-In, Rainbow Foods, Foodland IGA. Costco and Northern Sales. Day in and day out these donations constitute well over half of the food on our shelves and literally all of the fresh foods.
Thanksgiving in March is our major fundraiser each year. To organizer the Juneau Chapter of the Alaska Travel Industry Association, to our legislative waiters and servers, all who donate auction items and those who attend and buy them, we say thanks! This event, in combination with many unsolicited generous monetary donations through the year, allows us to operate the Food Bank and purchase food when necessary or when good opportunities arise.
And finally we would like to thank the small army of volunteers who spend time working at the Food Bank throughout the year. Without them, we would not be able to do what we do as effectively as we do it.
Thank you Juneau for making 2013 a very successful year for the Southeast Alaska Food Bank. Together we help to feed a lot of people. And thank you in advance for your continued support in 2014.
Marsha Partlow, Secretary
Southeast Alaska Food Bank Board of Directors
