The SouthEast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Lifestyle Balance Program is offering classes on Wednesdays in Juneau beginning on Feb. 26 and on Tuesdays in Sitka beginning on March 11. These hands-on classes will run for 16 weeks.
These classes will help anyone that has been diagnosed with pre-diabetes to delay or avoid the onset of diabetes. Participants will receive individual support from a Lifestyle Coach who will provide support in learning healthy lifestyle skills.
Pre-diabetes is a condition that comes prior to diabetes. It means that blood sugar levels are higher than normal, but are not high enough to be diabetes. It is possible for one to have pre-diabetes and not know it.
The SEARHC Lifestyle Balance classes are for those who are 18 years old or older, are Alaska Native or American Indian, and have been diagnosed with pre-diabetes or have had at least one higher than normal blood glucose level reading.
