2014 Annual Elders and Caregivers Workshop

Central Council Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska, Elderly Services Program and its Tlingit & Haida Caregivers Council will be hosting the 2014 Elders and Caregivers Workshop on Thursday, March 6, from 8:30 a.m.-4 p.m. at the Tlingit and Haida Community Council Building at 3235 Hospital Drive in Juneau.

Elders and family members or friends who takes care of an elder, spouse, mother, father, aunt or other extended family member are encouraged to attend this workshop. The workshop is free and lunch, coffee and snacks will be provided.

The keynote will be a panel presentation by Monique Martin with the Alaska Native Tribal Health Consortium and Crystal Bourland with United Way of Anchorage to share information on the Affordable Care Act. Participants will become more informed on local caregiver support services. Agencies that will have information tables include AARP, Alaska Legal Services, Alzheimer’s Resource Agency of Alaska, Cornerstone Home Health, Hospice and Home Care of Juneau, Juneau Commission on Aging, SAIL, Inc., Southeast Senior Services, Southeast Food Banks, Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium, Sealaska Corporation and United Way of Anchorage.

Guy About Town: Help for a town made of people

Hey, all! I hope you’ve been having a healthy, enjoyable January despite the meteorological mood swings. Like seriously, it’s like it can’t decide whether it wants to try to rip the door off my house or knock on it gingerly and sell me cookies. I have the fortune, however, of not having windows in my office. See, I don’t have to watch the tumultuous perpetual gray on the one hand, and on the other I don’t have to feel bad about being inside when it’s sunny. I just turn on my Costa Rica webcam and put my shades and Pet Sounds album on and party with those spreadsheets all day long.
