Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall Reopens

After nearly six months, structural repairs and renovations to the Central Council of the Tlingit and Haida Indian Tribes of Alaska’s (Tlingit Haida) Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall are finally complete. A temporary certificate of occupancy was issued by the City and Borough of Juneau last month, but was only recently cleared for public use following final modifications to the emergency lighting system to meet fire safety code standards.

The Hall was abruptly closed last August when it was discovered approximately 30 feet of floor truss supports between the ceiling and the third floor of the Andrew Hope Building had failed (approx. 1,600 ft. area) resulting in a portion of the floor collapsing. The closure was a devastating blow to Tlingit Haida that resulted in an estimated $12,000 per month loss of rental income and nearly $30,000 in emergency temporary repairs and engineer inspection expenses.

The Elizabeth Peratrovich Hall renovations include a state of the art lighting and sound system for professional presentations (acoustic ceiling tiles, theatrical stage lighting, LED lighting), new carpeting, wall coverings and two projectors with screens. The LED lighting upgrade was funded under a three-year Department of Energy grant awarded to Tlingit Haida. The Hall offers 6,156 square feet of event space and has a built-in modular wall system that can subdivide the hall into three separate meeting spaces to accommodate smaller events. A full commercial kitchen facility is also available for rent and equipped for all in-house or catering service needs.

New marking material, website and business Facebook page are currently under development.
