Flag Day 2014 in Douglas

The Douglas 4th of July Committee asks Douglas residents, organizations and businesses to fly our country’s flag on Flag Day, Saturday, June 14. The Committee asks residents to go further in decorating their buildings with flags and patriotic colored decorations. Please leave them up through July 4th, Independence Day to help make a super holiday in Douglas.

The Douglas Volunteer Fire Fighters will judge the properties at 5 p.m. Awards will be announced and posted at 8 p.m.

“Among the most popular icons of American culture, the flags and its colors have appeared on an astounding array of items. Streamers of red, white and blue–add images of the flag itself-are used as backdrops and centerpieces for nearly all political advertising. Stars and stripes show up on school tables, corporate letterheads, labels, annual report cover, fabrics, magazines and greeting cards. And we are not all surprised to find flags on key chains, salt and peppers shakers, wrapping paper and folding chairs, as well as on neckties, towels jewelry and penny candies,” Old Glory by United States Postal Service.
