India Busby receives barista certification

Coppa barista India Mae Busby was certified as Level 1 Barista by the Specialty Coffee Association of America on Aug. 21, 2015. She is the first Coppa barista to receive this certification.

“We’re proud of India for achieving this milestone,” said Marc Wheeler, co-owner of Coppa. “It’s great to see her hard work and dedication to the craft of coffee recognized.”

To become certified, Busby had to complete seven classes and pass both a written and practical examination.

“I’ve really enjoyed learning more about brewing coffee and making espresso drinks, especially at barista camp last summer,” Busby said. “I love my customers and it’s great being able to serve them the high quality coffee drinks they deserve.”

Busby is Coppa’s opening barista on Monday, Wednesdays and Fridays. Busby graduated from Thunder Mountain High School in 2014 and is currently enrolled at University of Alaska Southeast. Busby kept a blog about her experience at barista camp here: indiagoestobaristacamp.tumblr.com.
