This summer, the Juneau-Douglas City Museum is hosting Family Days once a month for local families to visit the museum and enjoy a drop-in activity. Adults with children will receive free admission, and all are invited to participate in a free drop-in activity suitable for children ages 5-10.
On Sunday, July 23 from 1-3 p.m., we will be exploring fishing in Juneau. “Catch” one of our new life-size fish fact panels, explore the fish trap interactive, discover more about the Montana Creek fish trap, play a matching game to learn why canoe paddles are made differently, and practice how to tie boating knots. Once you’ve reached your catch limit, explore the hands-on mining room and check out the rest of the museum’s exhibits. The next Family Day will be Sunday, Aug. 20.
The Juneau-Douglas City Museum fosters among its diverse audiences an awareness of Juneau’s cultural heritage, values and community memory so we may draw strength and perspective from the past, inspire learning, and find purpose for the future. As a public trust, we collect, preserve, interpret, and exhibit those materials that document the cultures and history of the Juneau and Douglas area.
