The Juneau-Gastineau Rotary Club was the recipient of four awards at the Rotary District Conference last weekend in Homer. The club was the sole winner of the Highest Net Membership Growth Award and the Highest Per Capita Giving Award, and one of many winners of the Public Relations Campaign Award and the 2010-2011 Presidential Citation. President John Robertson has attributed their success to the hard work of each and every member of the club.

Five students from Southeast Alaska earned spots on one of two honor rolls during the spring term at Oregon State University.

Both Juneau’s Evan Anderson and Petersburg’s Lindsey Wickham appeared on the Corvallis institution’s straight ‘A’ honor roll. Matthew Holm from Ketchikan, Maya Holmes from Petersburg and Alyson Lovett from Sitka were all picked for the B-plus honor roll after earning at least a 3.5 grade point average on a four-point scale.

Ryan Beason of Douglas has been named to the Dean’s List at Pacific University in Forest Grove, Ore. for the spring semester of 2011. Beason is one of 277 undergraduates out of 1,644 to receive the honor. To get on the list, a student must complete 12 or more graded hours and have a grade point average of 3.7

The Widowed Persons monthly brunch will be held at noon today at the Baranof Hotel.

The support group will meet at 6:30 p.m. July 14th in the Parlor Room at Fireweed Place. During summer months the support group will meet once a month on the second Thursday.

We will tour Glacier Garden Rainforest Adventures at 4 p.m. July 29th followed by dinner at 6 p.m.
