Seven students were honored at Juneau-Douglas High School on May 15 for their contributions to improving the school climate at JDHS. Before awarding each student with a special Student Recognition pin and a certificate, Principal Ryan Alsup gave a moving keynote address. He spoke about how his experience growing up in difficult surroundings shaped his passion to become an educator and to live drug and alcohol-free. The students and their parents then enjoyed lunch provided by the JDHS Parent Group.

There’s been an awful lot of back and forth in the local paper recently regarding liberal versus conservative Christianity. Actually there’s an awful lot of this back and forth all over the nation and it’s not just in the religious context that this liberal vs. conservative notion exists; we see it in the public arena all the time. But since I’m a pastor, I choose to reflect today on this Christian game that is played between denominations.

This little bunny is in search of a family to help bring out his fun-loving personality. A little on the shy side at first, Jack is cautious when first meeting new people. He loves to hop around from person to person and once he warms up to you, he will let you hold and snuggle him.

With less than three weeks to go, it is time for Juneau String Ensemble musicians to offer a hearty thank you to the community that has supported and encouraged them for the past two years.

Two years ago we set our financial goal at $75,000 to send 23 young Juneau musicians, an accompanist and their conductor to China for a once-in-a-lifetime musical exchange.
