A 44-year-old Juneau man was found dead Thursday morning in a residential neighborhood near Juneau International Airport.

The body of Robert Harold Houtary was discovered in a ditch near the intersection of Radcliffe Road and Eagle Street about 5:36 a.m., Juneau Police Department Lt. David Campbell said by phone.

“At this point in time, we’re not suspecting foul play, and we’re just awaiting what the medical examiner’s office has to say,” Campbell said.

Houtary was identified by the identification he had in his wallet, and Campbell said his family has been notified.

When the Empire arrived at the scene in midmorning, a photographer found no police presence.

Campbell said there were no visibly obvious signs of violence. Houtary was dressed in a cotton hoodie, and family members told police that he had some medical problems, Campbell said.

Capital City Fire/Rescue responders pronounced Houtary dead at the scene, and Fire Chief Rich Etheridge confirmed the location and timing of the discovery.

Temperatures Wednesday night into Thursday dipped to 53 degrees at the airport, with heavy rain at times.
