Driver in critical condition after crashing car

Solo driver medivaced to Seattle after being ejected from vehicle

A Juneau woman is in critical condition at a Seattle hospital after crashing her car on Glacier Highway on Friday.

The 54-year-old woman was medivaced to Harborview Medical Center on Friday and is in critical condition as of Saturday evening.

JPD received a report of a crash at 22-mile of Glacier Highway at about 4:07 p.m. Friday. It was reported that a vehicle was in the ditch and the driver was unresponsive.

Juneau Forest Service and JPD officers responded to the crash and found the vehicle to be heavily damaged and upside down in a ditch.

The unresponsive female driver, who’s believed to be the sole occupant of the vehicle, was found nearby. JPD believes the woman was ejected from the vehicle.

The woman was transported to Bartlett Regional Hospital and later medivaced to Harborview Medical Center in Seattle due to the severity of her condition.

Alcohol may have been involved in the crash, JPD sergeant Sterling Salisbury said. Because the woman was not charged with a crime and isn’t deceased, Salisbury said JPD isn’t releasing the woman’s name.

Correction: An earlier headline for this article described the driver as drunk, based on information from police that there was one driver involved in the crash and that alcohol was involved. Police later clarified that alcohol "may" have been involved. The headline has since been changed.
