Letter: Which century is this, Empire?

An outsider looking at that editorial page would likely look at the date to ensure it’s not reading Sept. 15, 1911. An Outside Editorial pushes for passage of a communications bill that would create a monopoly, a favorite of a century ago. Then there’s a spirited letter arguing no Christian can believe in evolution. Oh, that pesky Darwin and his wild ideas! Moving on, we’re told the federal health care reform interferes with the free market. The author, writing for the Citizens’ Council for Health Freedom (could it be financed by the insurance giants & Big Pharma?) warns of the danger of the U.S. joining the rest of the developed world in having federally financed health care. Nothing worse than “Americans chained to government imposed health care with no way out” unless, of course, we’re tired of unequal and unfair treatment by insurance companies and the powerful pharmaceutical firms.

Well, let’s enjoy the political cartoon. This ridicules NASA for wanting to spend taxpayers’ dollars on moon exploration.

We finish with Garry Trudeau, although he’s not born yet in 1911, yet somehow is talking about a new book on Sarah Palin. Odd — who’s that?
