Free obituaries: Obituaries of people who lived in Juneau or nearby communities served by the Juneau Empire are printed free in our newspaper and on juneauempire.com.
The Empire treats obituaries as news and they will be edited to conform with
our standards for content and style. These obituaries must be submitted by 10
a.m. for inclusion in the next
day's newspaper Monday-Friday. Obituaries must be submitted by 3 p.m. Friday
to be included in Sunday's newspaper. We do our best to get every obituary in
as soon as possible, but due to competing space needs, inclusion on a specific
day is not guaranteed.
Because this is a free service, the Empire is only able to print obituaries up to 450 words in order to provide equal space.
Paid obituaries: The Empire runs other obituaries as paid advertisements, such as those for people who did not live in Juneau and those where families or friends want specific wording or information not normally listed.
