Clarification

A Dec. 19 My Turn column in the Juneau Empire ran a quote from a BP official that in fact were two separate quotes. During a speech by David Lachance, vice president of resources for BP Alaska, he said: “As goes Prudhoe and Kuparuk, so goes the North Slope. Prudhoe Bay is literally half the oil up there, it’s the reason we have the pipeline.” Later in speech Lachance said: “We’re adding rigs to Prudhoe, we can’t stop the decline, we are producing a diminishing resources as you know … but we can substantially change the inflection of the curve and we can move into some of the areas of viscous, heavy oil and the more isolated light oil.”
