You did a wonderful job of smearing the reputation of the Juneau School District this week. If you’re wholly successful, RALLY will disappear, leaving parents with nowhere to take their kids after school. Why does the responsibility in this situation lie solely on the school? Why aren’t you asking some of our politicians where the funds for the schools are? I’ve written (Sen. Lisa) Murkowski to ask her, but she doesn’t seem to have the time to answer my emails.
I have an idea for you: Instead of focusing your article on the inability of a staff within our district, how about doing some stories on the fact that parents have nowhere to take their kids after school? Maybe focus on the fact that our taxes are going to places other than this obvious need within our society.
I felt insulted as a teacher by the above-mentioned article, but then you went and outdid yourself by reporting to our town that teenagers have cannabis on them at school. Please tell your public who to forward our ‘Thank You’ cards to for the rock-solid detective work that went into this raid. If you follow that story up with a story about the fact that teenagers copulate, I’m sure you’ll be in line for a Pulitzer.
At this point, I am beyond certain that the students of this town need lawyers in their futures more than they do teachers. At the rate we’re going, students will need lawyers to keep them out of jail, a war or mandatory rehab. If I haven’t convinced you yet, here’s a few more reasons they might need a lawyer: spousal abuse (from alcohol), drunk driving accidents (from alcohol) and let’s not forget the exorbitant amount of domestic violence and sexual assaults that will be caused by (you guessed it: Alcohol.)
Figure out where you would stand during the times of prohibition, then put yourself in that same place right here, right now. Do we need to focus one more ounce of our energy on fighting cannabis, or do we need to focus our energy on opiates, amphetamines, and alcohol — substances which are truly claiming the lives of this nation’s children?
There are some people working very hard to boost the intelligence and self-sufficiency of the youth of Juneau. A newspaper stirring-up trouble isn’t helping anything. Go get the full story of education.
