See the film - Obama's America

Posted: October 10, 2012 - 12:00am

My wife, Angie, and I saw 2016: Obama’s America recently while in the Denver area. I hope that every citizen will take the time and be open-minded enough to see it, too. The movie producer is Gerald Molen, the producer of the Academy Award-winning Schindler’s List. The author and co-director is Dinesh D’Souza, an intellectual; a distinguished author and journalist; a conservative; and an honest man in every respect.

I have spent a lifetime in service to our country. I have known many who died in service to our country, and I almost lost my life, too. Spending more than six years as a prisoner of war gave me time to think about our country, with all of its blessings, and, yes, its flaws — and my responsibilities.

In my lifetime, we truly have been remarkable and exceptional. We have been a force for good throughout the world. We have led the way and helped remove dictators and tyrants, and we have sacrificed so much national blood and treasure in those causes. We have given millions the opportunities of freedom and independence. We, unlike any other nation, have come to the aid of those suffering in natural disasters.

I am proud of our country, the goodness of our history and our continuing efforts to correct our flaws.

President Obama is the antithesis of the America I have known — the America for which I have willingly accepted personal sacrifice; extreme challenges and hardships; and lost many friends doing the same thing.

Obama’s re-election obviously would mean a majority of the voters in this country have chosen to give away the freedom and opportunity for which countless thousands have sacrificed and paid the ultimate price. If he is re-elected, the blood of our demise as a vibrant, exceptional and generous nation will be on our hands, and the ghosts of those who sacrificed so much for us will be stirred.

Those who allow this by their own lethargy and those who vote for Obama will have chosen to steer our country toward darkness, unlike anything anyone living today has ever experienced.

It is time to grow up and vote for the founding principles of our country and to vote with intelligence, not emotion. Obama’s America will not be able to do the great things of the past that made us exceptional — the greatest force in history for freedom, economic growth, innovation and generosity. Obama’s vision of America is based on economic and social policies and philosophy that never have worked, but have been tried repeatedly in modern history and failed.

His re-election would be a disaster for us all, especially for our children and grandchildren. His re-election would be an insult, a crime and a tragedy to all of us – and those consequences, and the mentality behind them, have been in the spotlight recently at the Democratic National Convention, where lies and absurdities prevailed. I hope you took the time to watch the spectacle.

I think of our granddaughters, triplets, now almost 3 years old. I consider a vote for Obama an extremely abusive act toward those little girls, one that I will not take lightly. We Americans have always passed along a country that is better, more prosperous, more noble and more generous; economically and militarily stronger; a country more moral and rational; and a country more willing to lead and sacrifice for freedom, and the freedom others deserve, than we inherited.

Voting for Obama is a vote to abandon our history, our heritage, our character, our obligations and our future. I am reminded of our Founding Fathers, of the sacrifices of so many which made my America possible, and how such a vote would do great harm to those adorable little granddaughters and my country. My tolerance for Obama supporters will cease.

I recently received some thoughts from a dear and courageous old friend from our difficult days in Hanoi, who, like me, was watching the Democratic National Convention. I agree with him totally and wanted to share his heartfelt thoughts:

“If those folks really do represent half or more of the electorate, then this certainly is not the America I grew up in — as a poor kid, with an opportunity to better myself, through my own intelligence and hard work. It is a socialist/communist country that will rapidly kill the goose that lays the golden eggs, to soon thereafter become perhaps the largest poverty-stricken, Third World country on the planet!

“If that is my future, then I resent it and I’m offended by it (for all the good that will do ...). Anyone who is eligible to vote and doesn’t do so in November will absolutely deserve the government their inaction secures for us all! For my part, however, having lived in a communist prison for nearly six-and-one-half years, I will resist, in every way possible, with all means at my disposal, until my dying breath!”

To that, I say amen, and God bless you!

This election is too important. Those who would vote for Obama want the government to run our lives; they wish for the producers in our country to support the takers and looters who contribute little to nothing; they revel in envy and class warfare (something that is foreign to me). If you watched the convention speakers, you have seen them denigrating the country I love; the religion I grew up with; the hard work, the traditions and history I treasure; the independence and freedom that have been America; and the honor of those who sacrificed so much for us.

This is a destructive crowd that is seemingly — and maybe emotionally and immaturely — hell-bent on destroying the country I love. I have had it.

Please see the movie 2016. Share this with friends, family and loved ones. Those among you who disagree with me, take a chance on enlightenment and see the movie. If you have not read Ayn Rand’s Atlas Shrugged, you should. Written in 1957, she describes an America where the “takers” (those expecting the producers and government to give them everything, to share the profits of their endeavors) demand more and more and the bureaucrats and politicians comply — and America descends into darkness.

I heard interviews with Democratic delegates Wednesday night of the DNC saying profit should be outlawed. You will be amazed at how accurately Atlas Shrugged reflects where we are heading tomorrow if Obama is re-elected. We must defeat Obama, and, I say again, my tolerance for his supporters has ceased to exist, as likely will a few friendships. But, that is OK.

Wake up, America. It is almost too late.

Why is it

that claiming you a veteran makes you any more knowledgeable about whose more qualified to be president than the rest of the population's opinions. For I am also a veteran and I do not agree with this piece at all. Perhpas that is becasue I believe everyone is free to make their choice. I do not believe the garbage spewed by those who claim their prior service makes them more knowledgeable than the rest of the population when it come to expertise on the candidates.

No Parody

It may seem like a parody but I don't think so. I have met too many people lately that make statements like, "We must stop Obama before it's too late." Before it's too late? What kind of crap is that? We lived through the Civil War but health care reform is going do us under?

The guy is a veteran. I respect that. Other than that, his point of view has no basis in reality. He saw a scary movie and thought it was real. He says he loves Ayn Rand's book Atlas Shrugged but doesn't seem to note that it was about a fantasy world that has never existed nor can it. This opinion piece says Obama's policies have never worked but Obama is using the same economic policies that have worked for 80 years and built this great nation. Right now the economy is improving and the US is not headed to hell in a hand basket. Obama isn't a socialist any more than Reagan was a socialist or Romney is a socialist.

Where's a fact?

Re-election of Obama is a "crime" and a vote for him is an "extremely abusive act?" Seriously? This is hilarious. I'm all for open, dispassionate debate; this ain't it. Carry on.

The Colonel is dramatic and paints perphaps an unrealistic picture of what would happen if Obama is re-elected but his passion does express a concern that many people have regarding the direction in which our country is heading.

If Obama is re-elected it would not be the end of the world but it would likely mean another step down the road toward the more socialistic America championed by the neo-liberals.

"Socialism---When the government own the means of production and we have co-operative management of the economy"....This is what China has and we are getting closer and closer to this example...right or wrong we are getting closer.

---Government take over of Freddie Mack and Fannie May --the Government now ones 1 out of every two mortgages in the US
--Government ownership of Chevrolet.
--Massive bank bailouts resulting in government as a business partner
--Obamacare
--Food stamps---1 in 7 families in US on Food stamps
--Welfare
--Expansion of Federal lands
--Expansion of government workers (more added during Obama's tenure than any president since L. Johnson)

@noroadfugitive

Many of the institutions you cite serve legitimate functions in our govt, though they have become the topics of abuse of authority and appropriation.

True socialism requires the consent of the governed thru a representative body that enables the govt to appropriate for the common good. The inherent problem is that the common good is an evolving objective as defined by the majority in power in that governing body. Take food stamps, for example – they serve a legitimate function, but under socialism food stamps would be an objective – get EVERYONE on food stamps and then “special treats” will be equally available to everyone.

noroad - two things

first - how are food stamps, welfare, social security, medicaid and medicare "means of production"?
They aren't factories or farms, those programs don't "produce" anything.

Second - I'd like to see your evidence that President Obama has expanded the number of government workers? I do not believe this is a true statement.

Ayn Rand

Ayn Rand's book was a fantasy and it still is. One definition of insane is to keep doing the same thing expecting a different result. In the 1950s Ayn Rand described the return of nineteenth century capitalism only this time it would not lead to sweatshops, slavery, and intellectual oppression. It's a model that failed over and over for anyone except an elite gang of rulers and elite overlords. We have made huge strides forward by putting brakes on uncontrolled capitalism. Rand acknowledged that unconstrained capitalism failed but figured it wouldn't fail in the future if people rejected God. I don't think a rejection of God on the fact that capitalism needs brakes.

If there is a God, Rand is being tortured in hell by the irony of that her fan base is made of religious extremists that insist the US is a Christian nation. Ayn Rand hated Jesus Christ.

noroadfugitive: Your post acknowledges that the guy writing the article "paints an unrealistic picture." You and I agree that he is deluded. Why did the Empire print an opinion of a person that paints an unrealistic picture instead of an opinion written by someone grounded in reality. This guy seems nuts or senile. There are rational republicans that don't think the sky will fall if Obama is re elected.

Why not print an opinion piece by one of them?

Always cracks me up......

When you get a negative for asking a question.

I know there are some folks out there who just 'negative' anything the PERSON says - regardless - I would think if you were such a person, a question to ask yourself might be - am I really interested in a conversation, and am I at all open minded?

It's like disregarding anything someone says because they are black, female, over 60, under 30, oriental, from France, has one leg amputated, etc. etc. etc.
How useful is an attitude like that?

Thank you Mr. Swindle

For clearly spelling out your objections to a continuance of an Obama presidency: That you saw it in a movie, and that Obama is the antithesis of the kind of America you want to believe in.

To me Obama is a disappointment for his vaunted 2 degree course-change from the policies of the Bush Administration. That's worse than a 2% difference, by the way---It's a little over a half of a percent; basically 358 degrees still on the same course: Indefinite detention, secret prisons, a world-wide war on "terror," unbridled executive privileges that include the suspension of habeas corpus, the power to kill American citizens without a trial, the widespread use of "secret evidence," and the ability and desire to declare war, at will, virtually anywhere, with all the machinery of the biggest security state the world has yet known.

So you're telling me that half a percent difference really grinds your behind; that we should go straight back to the good ol' days of the Bush Administration? Or do you think Romney's going to dismantle the Dept. of Homeland Security, do away with the Patriot Act, bring our troops home, throw open the veils of secrecy surrounding what used to be a government of the people, and quit spying on us for a change?

I don't base my political opinions on movies---Not Fahrenheit 9/11, not even the Zapruder Film---And I think we as a nation watch WAY too much TV. Madison Ave. has been selling us things for so long they're even starting to sell wars.

Give it a rest, Orson: Turn off your TV, go outside, and get to know your neighbors---ALL of them.

Swimer Girl,Regarding

Swimer Girl,
Regarding federal employee increases. Here is my part of a post/discussion between me a Lat. The numbers come from the Bureau of Labor Statistics.

---When you say “The numbers went up a bit in 2009, but they're still far below where they were during the heart of the Reagan era.”

A bit? It is the largest increase since the massive increase by the Democratic Administration of Lyndon Johnson in 1967. Since 1967 no other president has INCREASED government more than Oba and that’s in just TWO YEARS!

You are right that the overall numbers are lower now than during Reagan but that not taking into account the big picture... look at the progression..

1963 Kennedy 5.2 Million
1968 Johnson.. 6.6 Million
1974 Nixon down to 5.0 Million
1987 Reagan up to 5.3 Million
1993 H Bush down to 4.7 Million
2000 Clinton down to 4.1 Million
2007 W Bush same 4.1 Million
2010 Obama up to 4.4 Million…
2012 Obama ?????

And remember…Regan made his addition to the government while also growing the economy by almost one-third, the equivalent of adding the entire economy of West Germany, the third-largest in the world at the time, to the U.S. economy. In 1984 alone real economic growth boomed by 6.8%, the highest in 50 years. Nearly 20 million new jobs were created during the recovery, increasing U.S. civilian employment by almost 20%. Unemployment fell to 5.3% by 1989.----

I have no problem with an increase in federal employees. Heck, a huge section of Juneau are federal employees. Problem is, they are increasing the numbers of fed employees but decreasing the budgets. So we have more people trying to do more with less. Offices are having to get creative and do without a lot of their basic operational necessities but we are policing the world and putting an xray scanner in every airport in the nation...

@noroadfugitive: Obama has added 143,000 net federal jobs. The larger spike you see in 2009 is from temporary census workers. You know, that thing the government does every 10 years. I assure you, they've all been laid off.

It is interesting that one would criticize a president for hiring people during an unemployment crisis, though.
