Marching for healthy babies, pregnancies

JUNEAU — Families and Juneau residents are invited to unite and walk at the March of Dimes annual March for Babies walk at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 30, at the Dimond Park Field House. Registration will begin at 9 a.m.

Walkers will help to raise money to support programs and research to help moms have healthy, full-term pregnancies and to prevent birth defects, premature birth and infant mortality.

Last year’s top walkers were Gina White and Jolene Langel. Top teams in 2010 were Team Juno, Juno Babies, Peanut Power and Tender Loving Care TLC.

This year’s event is locally sponsored by KTOO news, Hecla Greens Creek, Alaskan and Proud Market, Bartlett Regional Hospital, Valley Medical Care and Dimond Park Field House.

According to a release from the organization, the March of Dimes is the number one birth resource for moms. The organization researches problems that threaten babies and work toward the group’s goal that every baby will have a healthy start in life.
