Get outside this summer as a volunteer with Discovery Southeast

JUNEAU — For those looking for volunteer opportunities in the wild Alaska outdoors, look no further. The local nonprofit, Discovery Southeast, is currently advertising a wide range of upcoming outdoor volunteer needs.

The group is looking for individuals looking to help with events such as Sea Week (April 26-29 and May 9-13), Friday Night Fun Night (May 6), the Juneau Maritime Festival (May 14), Community Day on Campus (May 21) and BioBlitz (June 18-19).

For those interested, the group has opened up the next staff training hike at Auke Lake to volunteers.  The hike will happen from 5:30-7:30 p.m. on Thursday, May 5 and naturalists and local experts will help participants explore the Auke Lake trail and surrounding natural spaces. Space on the hike is limited so interested individuals are asked to RSVP.

In addition, the group is hoping to have an entry in the 4th of July parade this year and would like to get as many kids and adults to participate in the Discovery Southeast “Parade of Species.”
