Deer season open in Unit 4

Doe and buck season in most of Unit 4 opened on Sept. 15. Only the Northeast Chichagof Controlled Use Area has a doe closure.

Areas south of Tenakee Inlet have shown considerable increases in the deer population. As a result, hunters are encouraged to include does in their harvest this year. Between a lack of deep snowpack hindering access to food and a prevalence of twin fawns, the population has grown sizeably.

Hunters must have deer harvest tickets and a valid hunting license. Unused tickets must be carried while hunting. Beginning this year, all hunters must submit a deer harvest report within 15 days of either taking the bag limit or the end of the season, even if they did not hunt.
