SEARHC EMS offers Wilderness First Responder course

SITKA — The Southeast Alaska Regional Health Consortium Emergency Medical Services department is offering an eight-day Wilderness First Responder course from Tuesday-Friday, April 10-13, and Monday-Thursday, April 16-19, in Sitka.

The Wilderness First Responder (WFR) curriculum is geared for those who work or play on land or sea, and no prior experience is required. Many guiding and tourism companies require the WFR credential for all of their employees who work in the field.

The class takes place from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. at the Southeast Region EMS Building, 100 Clothilde Way (a barn red building on the land side of Halibut Point Road about a block or two from the Halibut Point Marine Dock and Alaska Marine Lines).

This course had been closed until several new spots became available.

The course fee is $450, which includes all materials. The registration deadline is Friday, April 6. The minimum age for students is 18 years old, but people ages 16 or 17 may attend with parent or guardian permission.

To register or more details, contact Eric Van Cise at 966-8769 or Mike Motti at 966-8771.
