Pearson takes 'high overall' at April JGC shoot

The Juneau Gun Club held its April Amateur Trap Association shoot on Saturday, April 14. The weather was good for shooting with mostly overcast skies — some sun-breaks and light rain — and temperatures ranged between 35 degrees F and almost 50 degrees F. A light breeze aided in some high targets during the handicap event, but overall shooters reported a great day.


Three events were conducted: 16-yard singles, 20- to 23-yard handicap and Doubles.

Singles (11 entries, 100 targets):

A Class: Ken Pearson, winner, 98; Forrest Bowers, 97; Pete Hudson, 94: Jay Davis, 94 and Hank Masters, 93.

B Class: Mal Menzies, winner, 93; Dennis Travis, 92; John Joyce, 88.

C Class: Doug Solberg, Winner, 95; Greg Jerue, 92; Fred Bergander, 80 and Kim Custer, 69.

Handicap (11 entries, 100 targets):

20-yard entries: Ken Pearson, winner, 95; Forrest Bowers, 90; Doug Solberg, 91; Mal Menzies, 86; Dennis Travis, 85; Greg Jerue, 75; Fred Bergander, 70 and Kim Custer, 70. Sandy Bicknell entered and shot 37/50 targets.

22- and 23-yard entries: Pete Hudson, winner, 81 and Hank Masters, 79.

Doubles (7 entries, 50-pair of doubles):

B class: Pete Hudson, winner, 91; Ken Pearson, 87; Forrest Bowers, 85 and Hank Masters, 77.

C class: Dennis Travis, Winner, 89; Mal Menzies, 84 and Fred Bergander, 74.

The high overall winner was Ken Pearson with a 280/300.
