Outdoor Explorers Summer camps kick off in June

Kids ages 7-12 are invited to join Discovery Southeast this summer for week-long day camps spent exploring the trails, beaches, flora and fauna of Juneau’s outdoor playground.

According to a release from the local nonprofit, each week will feature role-play games, an art project and an age-appropriate outdoor presentation by a local expert on the natural history of Southeast.

Groups consist of 13 participants ages 7-9, or 10-12, with two adult naturalists. The first week of camp is the glacier-themed “Glacier Goonies” running from June 11-15, and the second week of camp is “Marine Scene” from June 18-22, with a focus on Southeast Alaskan sea life.

Camps run until the week of Aug. 6 and weekly themes are available on Discovery Southeast’s website.

Cost for a week of camp is $165 for members, and $195 for non-members. Full and partial scholarships are available for any child who needs one.

Call 463-1500, to register, or visit discoverysoutheast.org, for more information.
