The U.S. Forest Service Hoonah District Ranger, under authority granted by the Federal Subsistence Board, will hold a public hearing at 6 p.m. on Friday, July 20. The Alaska Department of Fish and Game will also share information on the upcoming deer season.
Members of the public are encouraged to attend to offer comments on the doe season in the Northeast Chichagof Controlled Use Area (NECCUA) on Chichagof Island in Unit 4.
The proposed management plan would allow federally qualified users the opportunity to harvest does on federal public lands in the NECCUA during the regular federal season. The State season for does would be modified in the NECCUA.
Doe numbers have increased since the substantial mortality that occurred in the winter of 2006-2007 and can sustain some harvest effort.
