Construction underway at Chena River State Recreation Area

FAIRBANKS — The State Department of Natural Resources has announced that construction is underway in the Chena River State Recreation Area and it will result in closures and limited access at the Granite Tors and Red Squirrel campgrounds over the next three weeks.

For any Juneau residents headed north, construction activities will include the re-conditioning of campground roads, campsite pads, replacing park furniture, installing a stairway at the start of the Granite Tors Trail, paving an apron at the Flat Creek Slough Boat launch, and building several orientation kiosks. The contractor for the work is Cornerstone Equipment.

During the construction period, the Rosehip Campground at mile 27 Chena Hot Springs Road will remain open, as will the numerous river access campsites, trailheads and public use cabins throughout the recreation area.
