Menzies takes top honors at Yukon PITA trap shoot

Five members of the Juneau Gun Club traveled to Whitehorse, Yukon Territory to attend a 600-shot, two-day, six-event, Pacific International Trap Association registered trap shoot sponsored by the Whitehorse Rifle & Pistol Club, Trap Division.

For the first day, the weather started as overcast, but cleared to a bright sunny day with a moderate breeze. The temperature warmed to near 70 degrees F. The second day brought dark skies with cool temperatures and strong, southerly winds that gusted in the morning. By mid-day, the skies cleared to a bright sun and the wind became a gentle breeze that soon calmed. The temperature again reached 70 degrees.

The overall shoot results were as reported below. Note: After each person’s name is a “W” for Whitehorse Trap Club member or a “J” for a JGC member.


Day 1, Event 1 (9 entries):

A Class: Tom Renwick (W) 96/100, overall winner, Mal Menzies (J) 92/100, Mike Curtis (J) 92/100, Doug Solberg (J) 91/100, and Jay Davis (J) 90/100.

B Class: Bud Burnett (J) 91/100 (winner), Doug Hogan (W) 87/100, Rob Collins (W) 82/100, and Justin Trusz (W) 66/100.

Day 2, Event 6 (8 entries):

A Class: Mal Menzies (J) 94/100 (winner), Mike Curtis (J) 91/100, Tom Renwick (W) 89/100, Jay Davis (J) 89/100 and Doug Solberg (J) 88/100.

B Class: Bud Burnett (J) 94/100 (winner), Doug Hogan (W) 84/100, and Justin Trusz (W) 66/100.


Day 1, Event 2 (9 entries):

Mid-yardage: Mal Menzies (J) 91/100 (winner), Jay Davis (J) 87/100,

Short-yardage: Doug Solberg (J) 96/100 (overall winner), Mike Curtis (J) 93/100, Tom Renwick (W) 95/100, Bud Burnett (J) 90/100, Doug Hogan (W) 78/100, Rob Collins (W) 72/100, and Justin Trusz (W) 52/100.

Day 2, Event 7 (8 entries):

Mid Yardage: Mal Menzies (J) 91/100 (winner), Jay Davis (J) 83/100,

Short Yardage: Doug Solberg (J) 94/100 (overall winner), Bud Burnett (J) 91/100, Mike Curtis (J) 90/100, Tom Renwick (W) 85/100, Doug Hogan (W) 77/100, and Justin Trusz (W) 55/100.


Day 1, Event 3 (7 entries):

B Class: Jay Davis (J) 84/100 (winner).

C Class: Mal Menzies (J) 85/100 (overall winner), Doug Solberg (J) and Bud Burnett (J) tied with 80/100, Mike Curtis (J) 77/100, Tom Renwick (W) 75/100, and Justin Trusz (W) 54/100.

Day 2, Event 4 (7 entries):

B Class: Jay Davis (J) 84/100 (overall winner).

C Class: Tom Renwick (W) 82/100 (winner), Mal Menzies (J) 80/100, Mike Curtis (J) 78/100, Doug Solberg (J) 75/100, Bud Burnett (J) 74/100, and Justin Trusz (W) 52/100.

High Overall:

Day 1: Mal Menzies, 268/300. Runner-up: Doug Solberg, 267/300.

Day 2: Mal Menzies, 265/300. Runner-up: Bud Burnett, 259/300.

High All-around: Mal Menzies, 533/600. Runner-up: Tom Renwick and Mike Curtis, tied with 522/600.
