U.S. Forest Service officials at the Juneau Ranger District are advising outdoor recreationists to be aware of a black bear that is, apparently, not fond of canines.
According to officials, a black bear in the Mendenhall Glacier Recreation Area has responded aggressively to dogs. In order to minimize encounters, the USFS is asking individuals in the area to observe the following: Travel in groups and make noise to alert bears; do not approach bears; keep dogs leashed when in the area; and do not allow your dog to approach or chase bears.
