Ski Sale scheduled for Nov. 3

This year’s Ski Sale, an annual fundraiser for the Juneau Ski Club and the Ski Patrol, will be held from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Saturday, Nov. 3 at Centennial Hall.

Admission is $2 per person (12 and under are free) and locals will find deals on both used and new winter outdoor equipment, clothing and supplies.

This year, door prizes include three season passes to Eaglecrest Ski Area, donated by Eaglecrest and the Juneau Central Labor Council.

For those interested in selling items, check-in runs from 4:30-8 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 1, 4:30-8:30 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 2, and 7:30-9:30 a.m. the day of the sale. Minimum price per item is $5. Any item deemed too old or unsafe will not be accepted. No straight skis allowed.

Typically, the event can get quite crowded, so attendees are encouraged to show up early for the best selection.

Cash and check only will be accepted.

Unsold items must be picked up from 4-5 p.m. the day of the sale.


Buckwheat Classic registration opens

Registration is now open for the 31st annual Buckwheat Ski Classic. The cross-country ski race will be held on March 25 on the Log Cabin Ski Trails north of Skagway and include 50K, 25K and 10K classic races as well as a 5K kids race.

Unit 4 fur season to end

The season for marten, mink, weasel and river otter in Unit 4 (Admiralty, Baranof and Chichagof Islands) ended Wednesday. Beaver season remains open through April 30.

Geologist Jim Baichtal will discuss revising old theories regarding how life adapted to Southeast Alaska’s ancient ice sheets during today’s Fireside Lecture at the Mendenhall Glacier Visitor Center.
