FAIRBANKS — The Department of Natural Resources’ Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys has released its first interactive web map application, the Alaska Geologic Data Index, (AGDI). AGDI is an actively growing index of unpublished geologic data collected throughout the state of Alaska. To use this new research tool, go to http://maps.dggs.alaska.gov/agdi.
This web application also represents the first publication in the division’s new Digital Data Series, which will facilitate the release of more geologic databases, web map interfaces, and other regularly updated compilations of digital geologic information. As DGGS integrates more GIS technology into its publication process, this series will provide the public with real-time interaction with the division’s geologic data.
AGDI includes information about and locations of industry reports and maps, field notes, drill logs, and other unpublished geology-related data. The records captured include project documents, imagery, and geochemical data, among others. The index references data and documents pertaining to all related fields of geology, including oil and gas, engineering geology, minerals industry, scientific data, and agency archives. The archived data are held and controlled by government agencies, institutions, and private companies; the index points to the physical location of the data, provides a basic description, and contains information on accessibility.
This project was originally funded through the federal Minerals Data and Information Rescue in Alaska program and contains records previously included in the Alaska Mineral Industry Data Index database.
Agencies, institutions, and companies are encouraged to contribute to this dataset any information about their unpublished data. If you would like to contribute data to this index or for information about AGDI, please contact the Alaska Division of Geological & Geophysical Surveys at email@example.com, or call 907-451-5028 or visit the division’s office at 3354 College Road, Fairbanks, Alaska 99709.
