JUNEAU — Both the Unit 1 and Unit 4 Sitka black-tailed deer state hunting season will end Monday, Dec. 31. This includes all of Admiralty, Baranof, and Chichagof islands, Juneau, Douglas and surrounding areas, as well as smaller islands within these units.
The federal subsistence deer season for federally qualified hunters continues on federal lands within Unit 4 until Jan. 31, 2013, unless closed earlier by the U.S. Forest Service District Rangers.
Federally qualified subsistence users continuing to hunt into the January season are reminded to obtain a valid 2013 hunting license. Deer harvest tickets issued for this year continue to be valid for the federal January 2013 period, but hunters should be aware of the land ownership where they are hunting. Additional information and maps concerning the federal subsistence season and hunter qualifications can be gathered by contacting the USFS district office in Sitka at 747-6671, or online at http://alaska.fws.gov/asm/index.cfml.
