Eaglecrest Ski Area will be hosting the 32nd annual Learn to Ski Weekend on Saturday and Sunday, Jan. 26 and 27, aimed at offering free lessons to Juneau youth who have never skied before.
A total of 45 youth from the third, fourth and fifth grades will receive a free weekend of first-time ski instruction, sponsored by Mendenhall Auto Subaru.
Winners will be selected through a random drawing and will receive free bus transportation, ski rentals, lift tickets, ski lessons and lunch at Eaglecrest. Those interested in participating must submit an application, available at all Juneau Public Elementary School offices, or online at http://www.skijuneau.com. Completed applications must to be returned to the elementary school office, or to Eaglecrest, by 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 22.
Winners will be announced Wednesday, Jan. 23.
“It’s great to see these youngsters develop their skills, and their excitement is contagious!” Jeffra Clough, Eaglecrest Snowsports School Director, said.
Instruction at the local ski hill goes beyond the Learn to Ski Weekend; January is Learn to Ski and Snowboard Month. Throughout this month, the mountain Snowsports School is offering programs and specials. For details, visit the Eaglecrest website. Children and adults are encouraged to learn from a professional instructor.
