'Sailor Talk' lecture highlights trans-Atlantic trip by local couple

SouthEast Alaska Sailing will host the second “Sailor Talk” event of the season from 6-8 p.m. on Thursday, Feb. 21, in the Back Room of the Silverbow Inn & Bakery.

Speakers Chris and Louise Miller will present a video and slideshow about their retirement trip to purchase a sailboat in Turkey and their subsequent cruise home. Stories about this whirlwind adventure will take attendees to Greece, through the Corinth Canal, then onto Rome, Venice, Florence, Spain, Gibraltar, and the Canary Islands. From there, follow a trans-Atlantic crossing to the Caribbean, up the U.S. East Coast to New York, then back down to the Caribbean.

This event is free and open to the public. No host bar will be provided by Silverbow. Arrive before 6 p.m. to order food.

SEAS “Sailor Talks” are an opportunity to share knowledge and stories during the sailing off-season, and cover a range of topics from boating repairs to safety tips, and more. These events typically take place on the third Thursday of the month through April.

SEAS promotes boating safety, sponsors several sailboat races, and is a family friendly, community oriented organization.
