The third annual High Gravity Games will hit the slopes of Eaglecrest Ski Area on Sunday, March 10.
This fundraising event features several outdoor competitions, music, food and an Alaskan beer garden, hosted by Marlintini’s Lounge.
As in past years, proceeds from the event go toward a local noprofit. The 2013 nonprofit beneficiary is SAIL, Inc., an organization which aims to help individuals with disabilities become more independent.
Alaskan Brewing and Eaglecrest have again teamed up to organize the event, which first kicked off in 2011 to help celebrate the brewery’s 25th Anniversary.
“The High Gravity Games is an extremely fun event designed for people of all skill levels, and this year we’re adding new elements to several of the competitions, as well as a new award category for best costumes.” Eaglecrest Event coordinator Jake Quarstad said. “We’ve had some incredibly creative costumes and enthusiastic teams in the past and we are looking forward to seeing participation grow this year.”
The Games’ signature event is the Start-Up Cup — a four-leg, five-person relay, where participants ski, snowboard, snowshoe and sled (a la human Iditarod racers) their way to the finish. Other events include the keg collar toss and downhill crash test dummy competition.
Registration is now open and details and event information is posted on the Eaglecrest website at www.skijuneau.com, and available at the Alaskan Brewery in Lemon Creek or at the Depot downtown.
