DSE offering Spring Break kids camp

Keep kids off the couch during Spring Break this year with Discovery Southeast’s youth camp “Unplug and Get Outside: A Backyard Exchange.”

The camp runs from March 18-22 and will allow kids to participate in outdoor activities such as tracking, snowshoeing and ice cream making.

There will be a daily pick-up and drop-off for participants both downtown and in the valley. This day camp runs from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will be led by DSE naturalist Rick Bellagh and assistant naturalist Christine Amor.

Kids will get a chance to investigate tracking stories while exploring the backyard forests of Auke Bay Elementary on Monday, and Glacier Valley on Tuesday. On Wednesday youth will explore the Brotherhood Bridge Trail connecting Mendenhall River Community School and Riverbend Elementary. The group plans to finish out the week at Eaglecrest Ski Area on Friday, March 22 for a snowshoeing activity and ice cream making with Rich Matteson, from DIPAC.

Parents can sigh children up for just one day, two days, or all five. Prices for the entire week are $165 for members and $195 for non-members. Daily rates are $35 for members and $40 for non-members.
