The 4th annual Juneau Maritime Festival will take place from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Sunday, May 19, at Marine Park in downtown Juneau. The event is held to celebrate Juneau’s Maritime history, culture and commerce drawing together a diverse community whose heritage, recreation and livelihood is centered on the sea.
The Maritime Festival is largely supported by volunteers and contributions from sponsors. The Alaska Seafood Marketing Institute, Alaska Marine Lines, Sealaska & Haa Aaní have come aboard as key sponsors for 2013. Additional donations are needed to make this festival a success for the community.
Businesses can support the festival with a sponsorship contribution, an in-kind donation, or by registering to exhibit. Deadline for exhibitor early registration is April 30, 2013.
More than 100 activities, acts and exhibits add to the festivities including live music, canoe rides, food contests, boat tours, filet demonstrations, delicious seafood offerings and a sea-lovers silent auction. For the kids there will be many hands on activities, sailboat rides, a sea life touch tank, boat building and the Raingear Roundup clothing exchange.
New to this year’s event will be an outerwear fashion show, food and beer pairings in the Alaskan Brewing Co. beer garden and cruise ship rope team tug of war. To add to the downtown celebration Jinéit will be hosting a Native Artist Market at Sealaska Plaza in conjunction with the festival.
The Juneau Economic Development Council actively promotes the Juneau Maritime Festival each year with the help of a dedicated group of local citizens and organizations.
