HELENA, Mont. — The National Park Service has named the head of Kenai Fjords National Park as the next superintendent of Glacier National Park.

Jeff Mow has worked for the park service for 25 years and has been superintendent of Kenai Fjords in Alaska since 2004.

The park service announced Wednesday Mow will take over leadership of the northwestern Montana park on Aug. 25.

Mow replaces Chas Cartwright, who retired in December. Kym Hall has been acting superintendent since then.

Mow began as a seasonal park ranger at Glacier Bay National Park and Preserve, then worked for the park service in Skagway and the Gates of the Arctic.

After a short stint in Washington, D.C., he became superintendent of Colorado’s Florissant Fossil Beds National Monument in 2002 before heading back to Alaska.
